What is the working title of your book?
3 Sides to a Circle
If Janna and I keep this up (10 Weeks, 3 Sides to a Circle...) we may end up writing a story called 50 Ways to Leave Your Lover... Or maybe that's been done already ;-O
Where did the idea come from?
Janna really wanted to write a college freshman story revolving around a girl who at one point is described as a "manic pixie" and we've both always wanted to write a story w/ three people that is not a love triangle, but a friend triangle, and how that can often be just as complicated - or more so...
What genre does the book fall under?
Well - Contemporary, and then maybe social issues. It's a friendship book, but there is also more than one love story going on and more than one KIND of love story happening...
And leave it to Janna and I to write a NA kind of story that feels more like a YA maybe even than a NA... I like that inbetween - yes, they're facing some of those NA challenges and more lasting consequences, but their parents are still playing roles in their lives, and... So, yeah. We wrote a YA/NA mix, lol.
Which actors would you want to play your main characters?
Uh... I suck hard at this.
Maybe a much taller Rachel Bilson for Honor.
A young Janine Garofolo for Libby?
Photo courtesy of JaneaneGarofolo.com - you'd have to make the hair purple, but aside from that...
And a cross between David Schwimmer and Johnny Galecki from The Big Band Theory for Toby - Janna may disagree... and he is HER character...
And Sawyer... Not part of the circle, but hot enough to include because he's a painter, and because he might be one of my favorite book boyfriends ever ;-)
Matt Czuchry - the guy who played Logan in the Gimore Girls who Rory totally used and screwed over? That guy ;-)
And here:
And you can also see him here:
What? A crush on Matt Czuchry?
I'm too old for that stuff...
I'm sorry...
What were we talking about?
OH! RIGHT!
My book ;-)
What is the one sentence synopsis for your book?
How about a tagline??
Love is the ultimate rush...
How long did it take you to write your first draft?
About a month maybe? It's hard to tell because we both were sidetracked at different times by different projects...
What other books would you compare this story to in your genre?
NO freaking idea... I'll give you some films...
It's a little like Pitch Perfect meets Reality Bites meets Girl Interrupted meets Meet Reed Fish (This last one is an adorable little indie film - go check it out sometime when you want something cute, quirky, and sweet)...
What inspired you to write this book?
When Janna and I work together, it ends up in the "chicken or the egg" argument...
It's simply that we both wanted to write a story of three friends sucked into the vortex of one of them. She mentioned a three-friend thing, and I was like - I've been thinking on a story like this for a while...
I wrote Honor, and she really, REALLY took me by surprise. I was two paragraphs in, and was like - this isn't the person I was going to write, so I erased and started over, and she came to me the same way. I think Honor is maybe one of the most complex characters I've ever written. I love how unsure she is, and how she slowly comes into her own. She's very inside herself at first.
And now you know that my inspiration comes mostly from the characters I create...
What else about the book might pique a reader's interest?
Uh... the hot painter, Sawyer - I put in a few pictures of him above, you could scroll back up and check them out if you missed them the first time around ;-)
Angel wings and thongs.
Licking tattoos.
Stealing golf carts.
Breaking into book stores.
Blue light house non-naked parties.
A room rearranged daily.
The paintings.
The first KISSES.
A nerdy-cute boy.
A boy who didn't bathe for so long his roommate needed new digs.
Starry night on the ceiling.
The mascot incident.
The coffee house.
The arrest...

You should've added a few more pictures of Matt whats-his-last-name; we didn't get enough. :)
I have to say, those little random things to pique your interest certainly piqued my interest. :)
Happy Monday!
This is great! The love triangle has been overdone and so it's fantastic to see a friendship triangle shake things up. Good for you ladies for being original!
You had me at Matt Czuchry. Or you, because you know I ♥ you. I'd love to do a promo post--I can't wait for this book!
