A Word on Books...

So.
You might want to open up goodreads on another browser page...

Steph Campbell and I were chatting about books because I was (and still am- ONLY b/c I don't want it to be over) reading Where it Began, and couldn't believe that it hadn't been recommended to me a million times over b/c it's an amazing book w/ FANtastic writing, and such a cool plot and totally authentic teen voice. All things that are hard to come by, and even harder to come by ALL IN THE SAME BOOK.
Steph made a list of can't miss YA books on her blog, and I'm happy to report that I've read all but two and heartily concur with her recommendations. So go TO HER POST HERE when you're finished with mine, because I've kept mine different...

I think that with the desire to read the newest, biggest, bestest thing, a lot of amazing books are never going to get the credit they deserve. With so many independent authors (yes, I'm one of them, and happy to be) putting out so many books, I feel like there are a few traditionally published books that no one's heard of, but that everyone should be reading.
There are a few YA books I've talked to death on here, and I may bring up some that I've brought up before, but I'm going to try and keep to ones I've read within the past 6 months...

If you spend any time here at all, you'll know I'm a huge Carol Lynch Williams fan. Her books are dark and beautiful. This is my fav of hers. Everything about this book was brilliant and gorgeous, and the ending was absolutely perfect.

LOVED this one as well. SUCH an authentic teen voice and cool setting and plot and secondary characters and love story and coming of age story...

No. This isn't Sara Zarr's newest - I did read How to Save a Life and thought it was brilliant, but this one is my fav of hers. If you love this book, you need to be salivating over Kelley York's upcoming Entangled Teen release of Made of Stars (which will forever be WAY high on my fav ever reads).

There may or may not be a few scenes in this book I've read as many times as the kiss in Lola and the Boy Next Door... This book was so REAL. This is exactly what a coming-of-age/first-love story should be. Absolutely brilliant.

I put off reading this book for forever, and once I was a third of the way in, I had no idea why.
It was a little slow to start, but I knew by the descrip that it would be. I highlighted in this book on almost every freaking page. LaCour is a genius with words.

So those are my most recent reads that I totally loved and think you should read ;-)

Also - I think I'm going to tag Nyrae and maybe Christa and see if we can get some more good recs for brilliant books...

What books are on your must-read list?

These all sound fantabulous and I haven't read a single one of 'em! Time to add to my TBR...again... ;)

The only one I haven't heard of is Where it began. Will skip over to Goodreads now.

Okay, back. :)I've looked for Sweethearts, as per your recommendation, but our libraries don't have it. Although they have several other S.Zarr books. It they does have Speechless, which is hard not to notice with the cool all white cover.

I swear for every book I read, I add like 3 to GR. It's a bad cycle. :)

Happy Monday!

I'm probably the only one that hasn't read any of these.

But, I love this idea. I will be checking out the other recommendations lists as they go up as well.
