SO. I'm on tumblr, and the more I'm there, the more I love it.
The whole idea behind "writer shoes" is "what it's like to walk in a writer's shoes."

Tumblr is an odd sort of forum, but one I'm getting used to. The direct communication comes from questions people ask, rather than comments left behind. It's sort of awesome. And there's so much pretty. Tumblr is like if Pinterest, Twitter and Facebook had a baby... Sorta ;-)
I was asked this question by a very cool lady I met on tumblr -
You can find her HERE
And you can find ME Here I post all sorts of pictures and fun-ness.
What would be your top three pieces of advice for a new writer dreaming about getting published?
ONE- Find beta readers that are better writers than you are. This takes time, but will make the difference between publication, and not…
TWO - Take time away from your manuscript between each round of edits, and again before submitting. BEST. EDITING. TOOL. EVER.
THREE - Come up with some goals, and decide what you really want out of your career. Be prepared to wait a LONG time (my book got picked up six months ago, and it doesn’t come out for another 14 months - this was after finding an agent and being on submission to publishers for 6 months…). And once you have those goals and you’re prepared to wait, also be prepared to throw your plan out the window if something else comes up…
I have NO idea if that was helpful or not, but those are the things I tell everyone…
Wanna add some good pieces of writerly advice? Or even your top three??

I think you pretty much covered the most important rules! Especially the one about finding betas who are better writers than you. I learned a ridiculous amount from a three page critique from Angie Cothran almost a year ago!
I also adore Tumblr, I spend so much time on there looking at all the pretties!

I've never spent any amount of time on Tumblr except for maybe this page: http://batmanrunningawayfromshit.tumblr.com/
But my eldest niece admonishes me regularly for not being on Tumblr.
I agree with all three pieces of advice you offer. I don't have any actual experience with the third, but I find the first two are very true and very important.
Great advice. I just barely joined Instagram. I don't know how many social media thingys I can handle. :)
Great advice. Totally agree with #1. Btw, want to read my latest ms? ;)
I'm gonna do what you say, and set aside one of my current WIPs. It's my NaNo story and after I finish the rough draft, by end of January, cause it's on my JanPlan, then I'll let it sit a bit.
I've got your tumblr on my google reader now, so i'll be watching that too.
Oh my...add in tumblr too. My brain may seriously have a melt down.
Great writing advice! And I want my local shoe store to have more colorful Chuck choices. I want bright yellow! ;)
Uh-oh, my daughter's been on Tumblr for over a year now and her face rarely emerges from her laptop! Don't get addicted! ;)
Great advice. I can't really think of any besides be prepared to work hard and long. :)
I love me some tumblr. It's really refreshing and visual.

I love tumblr ... love how it's different from other social media sites
Hey Jolene, maybe you can help me a bit? I set up a Tumblr page a long time ago. I loved the way it looked, but I found the site not user friendly at all and abandoned it within a couple weeks of setting it up. I could not for the life of me figure out how to see any comments, or questions....or anything from anyone who may be reading it...and I could not leave any comments/questions or anything on anyone else's site. I was extremely frustrated and came back to blogger. Can you explain the appeal of tumblr, briefly? Thanks so much Jolene!
