Chicken Soup

So.
Last week I thought it might be fun to sit down and like... watch something on my TV (which I rarely do). I had some easy stuff to do online and wanted "background noise" so I watched one of my "fallbacks" - Persuasion.
(P.S. the Captain Wentworth in this movie is too pretty to be real, but so very yummy...)

And then the next day, I wanted a repeat because it is actually really nice to stop working for small parts of the day, and so I ended up watching this...

Yeah... I know. But I love both versions.
The book I've read more than any other book? (especially since I'm not really into re-reading)

And can I just add here that this book is so much better read aloud. Mansfield Park used to be my favorite Austen, but with my love for the movie Persuasion, my love for that book has also grown and it might be my favorite.

Once I get on a kick, I really get on a kick and spent the next few days with this...

And I have a good friend who wrote THIS delightful book in the same era...
One you can find HERE.

I remember when Ranee was writing this book and how she wanted her MC to hit another woman, and then realized that even though it would have been REALLY FUN TO WRITE, that people of that time cut each other down with words. One touch of a finger could be as scandalous as sex in a modern novel. One look could lift someone to the highest heights or send someone walking the other way in defeat.
When two people are not allowed to speak alone, or to write to one another without the possibility of total impropriety - the simplest thing, the smallest thing becomes also the most incredible. This is why I sometimes love to jump back into this time period and read, and then when I want those same stories because every once in a while we LOVE the rut, I start looking for modern adaptations of the same thing... And I can always, always find them...

When you're looking for the familiar - what do you read? watch?
Maybe I need a new "chicken soup"...

PRIDE AND PREJUDICE! I love Keira knightly so much. I used to watch it all the time... So much so that I would fall asleep and then WAKE UP at all my favorite parts... Wait... Is that sad?

Have you seen the Jane Austen Book Club... It's a sweet movie!

Harry Potter is my go to... I read them/watch them all the time.

Yep, there are a few things I go back to when I want something warm and fuzzy and comforting. The Colin Firth version of P&P is definitely one (LOVE. IT). Also North & South with Richard Armitage (could possibly take over in my faves stakes, seriously, it's that good). I also have enjoyed some adaptations, like EPIC FAIL by Claire LaZebnik. I recently re-read it 'cause I wanted a P&P-esque fix.

One movie not in this vein at all that I often revisit is...wait for it...SPEED. haha

Have to agree with Allie. Harry Potter most definitely. I must be the only one who still hasn't read P&P. I always say I'll do it but don't. And I love historical fiction because it's great and I'm too chicken to buck up and write any. Enjoy your chicken soup fix Jolene and can't wait to read about what you'll be writing next.

I think Persuasion is my favorite Austen. Personally I can't stand the Kiera Knightly version of P&P.

The one book I probably re-read the most is Jane Eyre.

P&P the Keira version is my go to movie. I feel like a rebel cause I love it more than the 5 hour BBC version. And I'm totally gonna try reading it out loud next time. Cool.

I read P&P the year the Keira Knightley movie came out. I also watched EVERY movie version- the Laurence Oliver one (1944? I believe), the Colin Firth adaptation, and even a few modern day ones- Bridget Jones etc. in order to prep for the Keira Knightly version. LOL .

If you like P&P Jolene you should check out The Lizzie Bennett Diaries. It's a Youtube series where a modern day P&P happens through vlogging. It is HILARIOUS!!!!!!!!! So snarky and fun. Lizzie is a grad student and Darcy is the head mogul of a company and they're both about 24 or 25. :-) Check it out when you get a chance.

I love, love, LOVE Pride & Prejudice. I haven't even watched Persuasion yet. Guess I better get with it. :)

I love to watch Pride and Prejudice. My favorite is the Kiera Knightly version but naturally, I love Colin Firth.

My mother and I have spent several afternoons debate our favorite film adaptations of P&P. She's BBC all the way.

I haven't seen Persuasion though.

The LDS version of P&P is so cheesy and cute. I love it and shamelessly watch it at least once every year.

Ranee's book is way cute and fun, too :)
